Maghera Presbyterian Church’s early marriages begin in 1843 and were fairly detailed including the faher AND mother of the bride and groomwhich is especially useful for genealogy. The names of the bride and groom are in bold to aid users searching through the text and did not occur on the original documents.

On the nineteenth day of July One thousand eight hundred and forty three years, Robert Lappin, of Maghera, Parish of Maghera, in the County of Londonderry, Son of Robert Lappin of Maghera and Margaret Wilson alias Lappin, and Anne Long, of Moneymore, Parish of Maghera, in the County of Londonderry, daughter of Samuel Long and May Gray alias Lappin (?), was wed in lawful marriage in the presence of William Long and Thomas Wilson by licence of   Smylie Robinson

On the eighteenth day of August 1843, George Orr of Tullyherron, Parish of Maghera County Londonderry, Son to Robert Orr M.D. of Maghera and _____, and Jane Lytle of Tullykeeran in aforesaid Parish and County, daughter of Moses Lytle and Elizabeth Lecky alias Lytle were joined in lawful marriage in the presence of Robert Porter of Ballynock and David Rea of Fallalea, by Smylie Robson, Minister.

On the twenty second day of August 1843, John Weir of Straid, Parish of Ahoghill in the County of Antrim, son of Robert Weir and Martha ?elfair alias Weir and Rosanna McClelland of Curragh, Parish of Maghera in the County of Londonderry daughter of John McClelland and Sarah Thompson alias McClelland were joined in lawful marriage in the presence of Samuel ???? of Straid? On the thirtieth day of August One thousand eight hundred and forty three years, John Millar of Knocknakielt son of William Millar of Knocknakielt Parish of Termoneeny in the County of Londonderry and Elizabeth Taylor alias Millar, and Sarah Service of Grillagh, Parish of Maghera daughter of Robert Service of Grillagh deceased and Jane Campbell alias Service deceased?, were joined in lawful marriage in the presence of James Phillips and William Taylor, both of Maghera by Smylie Robson, Minister

On the first day of November One thousand eight hundred and forty three years, between the hours of six and seven o’clock in the house of the father of the bride, William Shiels of Maghera Parish of Maghera in the County of Londonderry, Son of Robert Shiels of Mullagh Parish of Maghera in said County and Fanny Kissick, alias Shiels, and Matilda Reid daughter of John Reid of Maghera, Parish of Maghera in said County and Ellen McNeill alias Reid, were joined in lawful marriage in the presence of Samuel Long and John Mooney by   Smylie Robson, Minister

On the eleventh day of January 1844 years, John Wilson son of James Wilson of Tirgarvil Parish of Maghera and May Patterson alias Wilson, and Jane McCool daughter of Thomas McCool of said Townland and Parish and Molly Marks alias McCool were joined in marriage in the presence of Henry Wilson of Macknagh and James Wilson Jun of Tirgarvil by   Smylie Robson, Minister

On the 30th day of January 1844, William Kyle of Ballymacilcurr, Parish of Maghera Son of Thomas Kyle and Charlotte Heron alias Kyle, and Eliza Johnston of Slattybogie daughter of Job Johnston and Sarah Elliot were joined in marriage by in the presence of James Bullion and David Thompson Jun by Smylie Robson, Minister

On the 15th day of February 1844, Samuel Crossan of Magnah (Macknagh) Parish of Maghera , son of Kennedy Crossan and Mary Barbour alias Crossan, and Margaret Wilson daughter of Thomas Wilson of Magnah and Mary Huston alias Wilson, were joined in marriage in the presence of Alexander Milican Wilson of Grillagh Parish of Maghera and John Huston of Ballymacilcurr in said Parish.

On the 19th day of March 1844 William Camphill son of William Camphill of the townland of Granny and Parish of Kilcronaghan and Mary Stewart alias Camphill and Nancy Jane Atkinson daughter of John Atkinson of the townland of Tivaconway and Parish of Tamlaght O’Crilly and Sarah Atkinson alias Stewart? No.1 Upon the 26th of September 1845, David Service of Grillagh, Parish of Maghera in the County of Londonderry and Jean? Service of Grillagh Parish of Maghera in the County of Londonderry were joined in lawful marriage by the Reverend Charles Kennedy. In presence of  Alexander  Hipron? &  William McCay?

Smith? & Jason (or James) Earl.

No.3 Upon the  thirteenth day of February 1846 William Fleming of Ballymacilcurr & Peggy Jane McElroy Of Macknagh, both in the Parish of Maghera and County of Londonderry were joined in lawful marriage by Thomas Witherow, Officiating Minister. In the presence of John Huston & Henry Wilson.

No.4 Upon the fifth day of March 1846, William Dunlop of Culnady and Margaret McMullan of Ballymacilcurr both in the Parish of Maghera and County Londonderry were joined in lawful marriage by Thomas Witherow, Min. Of Maghera In presence of Thomas Kyle & Alexander Bylin

No.5 Upon the twelfth day of March One thousand eight hundred and forty six years, Henry Wilson of Macknagh Parish of Maghera and County of Londonderry, and Eliza Beatty of Tamneymartin, Parish of Termoneeny and County of Londonderry were joined in lawful marriage, by Thomas Witherow, Minister of Maghera  In presence of Joseph Beatty & Sam Cronin.

No.6 Upon the eight day of May One thousand eight hundred and forty six years Thomas Boon of Ballynure, Parish of Ballinascreen and Eliza Clark of Craigmore Parish of Maghera both in the County of Londonderry were united in lawful marriage by Thomas Witherow, Minister of Maghera   In Presence of Henry Boon & Matthew Lytle
