School Registers

Mercers School in Kilrea

School attendance registers were required when compulsorary education introduced to ensure that each child received an education. Most school registers begin in the 1860s, although for some National schools, particularly in rural areas, regsters only exist from the 1870s. In any case they provide a wonderful source of information, including the name of the pupil, where they were living and who their father was. Naturally, this can prove very useful for modern amateur genealogists and social historians.

Maghera and District Genealogical and History Society are fortunate to have a few that have been transcribed by kind individuals out there and are presented here for your information and enjoyment.

  1. I am trying to find records of Lislea National School. The link to boys however defaults to Kilrea.
    Can you provide another link.

    1. Chris,
Sorry about that mix up.. I have provided the Lislea Boys school information now. I am also still working on the sizing issue with the tables in the ‘Theme’. I hope also to have this rectified soon! 🙂
